Understanding the Problem

Our world is facing serious environmental challenges that affect everyone. To make a real difference, we need to understand these problems clearly. Here, we explain the key issues that drive our mission at Carbify.

Environmental Issues

Deforestation and Climate Change

Large parts of the Amazon rainforest have been lost due to illegal logging and farming. When trees are cut down, they can no longer absorb carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the air. This leads to higher CO₂ levels, which contribute to climate change.

Global Warming

Trees store CO₂ in their trunks, branches, and leaves. When they are removed or burned, this stored CO₂ is released back into the atmosphere. This adds to the greenhouse gases that trap heat, causing the planet to warm up.

Threats to Local Communities

Deforestation doesn’t just harm the environment; it also disrupts the lives of local people. Traditional ways of life are affected, and communities face challenges like loss of land, lack of resources, and exploitation.

Issues with Traditional Carbon Credits

Many businesses use carbon credits to offset their emissions. However, traditional carbon credits have several problems that can limit their effectiveness.

Double Counting

Sometimes, the same carbon reduction is claimed by more than one party. This “double counting” means that the actual impact on reducing CO₂ is less than reported.

Lack of Transparency

It can be hard to track where the money from carbon credits goes and whether it leads to real emission reductions. Without clear information, it’s difficult to know if the carbon offsetting is genuine.

Ineffective Projects

Some projects funded by carbon credits do not deliver real climate benefits. They might fail to reduce CO₂ levels or even cause other environmental issues.

High Costs

Traditional carbon credits can be expensive and may include hidden fees. This makes it harder for businesses to offset their carbon emissions in a cost-effective way.
